About - The Andrew Yule Group

The Andrew Yule Group is a prominent Indian public sector conglomerate with a storied history dating back to 1863. Founded by Scottish entrepreneur Andrew Yule in Calcutta, it evolved from a colonial-era managing agency into a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Today, the group operates as a multi-divisional entity with significant interests in tea, electrical equipment, and engineering.

The Tea Division remains the group’s most recognizable arm, managing 15 tea estates across Northeast India—10 in Assam and 5 in West Bengal (Dooars and Darjeeling). As the only CPSE in the tea sector, it manages over 8,600 hectares of plantation land. In the 2024–25 financial year, the division reported a turnover of approximately ₹156.24 crore. Despite challenges like climate change and rising labor costs, the group has successfully pivoted toward tea tourism at its Mim Tea Estate in Darjeeling and achieved record export growth in recent years, reaching markets in the UK, UAE, and Poland.
