Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited (APPL) is a key enterprise within the Tata Group, emerging in 2007 from the divestment of Tata Tea’s (now Tata Consumer Products) plantation operations in North India. As of 2026, APPL stands as the second-largest tea producer in India, maintaining a vast operational footprint that includes 21 estates in Assam and 4 in the Dooars region of West Bengal. These 25 estates cover approximately 24,000 hectares of land, with over 14,300 hectares specifically under tea cultivation.

In terms of production, APPL has an annual capacity of approximately 42 million kilograms of tea. Beyond its own crop, the company maintains a significant “Bought Leaf” operation, partnering with nearly 100,000 Small Tea Growers to source green leaves, which provides a vital buffer against the fixed-cost risks inherent in the plantation business.

Financial data for FY 2024-25 shows a resilient performance with a total revenue of ₹876 crore. Under the current leadership of Chairman Ajoyendra Mukherjee, APPL is aggressively pivoting toward Orthodox tea to capture higher global price realizations. Additionally, the company is diversifying its land use through agri-food ventures like spices, horticulture, and sustainable timber plantations, ensuring long-term value creation beyond the traditional brew.
