About - Dhunseri Tea & Industries Ltd

Established in 1997 and headquartered in Kolkata, Dhunseri Tea & Industries Ltd (DTIL) is a prominent member of the Dhunseri Group, led by Chairman C.K. Dhanuka. The company has distinguished itself through an aggressive “Acquisition and Modernization” strategy, evolving from a traditional plantation owner into a diversified global producer of tea and macadamia nuts. As of March 2026, the company operates 10 tea estates in Assam and significant plantations in Malawi, East Africa, maintaining a consolidated production capacity of approximately 21 million kilograms of tea and 400 tonnes of macadamia.

Financially, the 2024-25 cycle was a period of consolidation following major expansions. The company reported a consolidated Total Revenue of approximately ₹462 crore, marking a 14% year-on-year growth compared to FY24. However, like much of the North Indian tea industry, DTIL faced margin pressures due to erratic rainfall and rising labor costs. Standalone tea production in India for FY25 stood at 11.73 million kg, down from 13.09 million kg the previous year, primarily due to the strategic sale of the Dilli Tea Estate and weather-related crop losses. Despite these volume challenges, the company’s focus on high-quality Orthodox and premium CTC grades allowed it to achieve a significant uptick in price realizations, with average domestic sales prices rising by over 20%.

The company’s growth in recent years has been bolstered by the high-profile acquisition of estates from Apeejay Tea (Budlabeta and Hapjan) and Warren Tea (Duamara, Tara, and Deohall) in 2022-23. Beyond India, Dhunseri is a major player in the African market through its subsidiary, Makandi Tea and Coffee Estates Ltd. In Malawi, the group has diversified its revenue stream by becoming one of the world’s largest private producers of Macadamia nuts, which provide a high-margin hedge against the volatility of the global tea market. With a workforce of over 13,000 employees, DTIL continues to invest in 100% irrigation coverage for its Assam gardens to mitigate future climate risks.
